Paid Time Off (PTO)

PTO incorporates all time away from work for which an employee is eligible for compensation. PTO is gained through an accrual for most employees, based upon qualified hours paid, and is used in lieu of paid vacation time off, paid holiday time off, and paid time off for illness (supplementing other Bronson illness and accident benefits), or personal necessity. Additional benefit policies, such as jury duty, witness duty, funeral leave, military leave, etc., provide supplemental paid time off benefits for specific situations.

PTO Eligibility

All regularly scheduled full-time and part-time employees, with a minimum of forty-eight (48) approved hours per pay period other than PRN employees and Traveling Nurses are eligible to accrue and use PTO. PRN employees, Traveling Nurses, and employees with 47 or fewer approved hours per pay period are eligible to accrue Paid Medical Leave (PMLA) pursuant to a separate policy.

Paid Time Medical (PTM)

Employees eligible under this policy will receive paid medical leave (PMLA), which may be used for certain medical or personal reasons as provided in the Michigan Paid Medical Leave Act (MPMLA), including those related to:

  1. The employee’s personal illness, injury, health condition or preventative care;
  2. A family member’s illness, injury, health condition or preventative care;
  3. The employee’s or family member’s victimization by domestic violence or sexual assault; and
  4. The closure of the employee’s primary workplace or his/her child’s school/place of care due to a public health emergency. PMLA allows employees to have the opportunity to attend to important personal matters without suffering financial consequences.

PMLA incorporates all time away from work for which an employee is eligible for compensation. PMLA is gained through an accrual of 1 hour for every 35 hours worked.

PTM Eligibility

All PRN employees, Bronson Travel Staff and employees with approved hours of forty-seven (47) or fewer per pay period or less are eligible to accrue and use PMLA under this policy.
